I'm the Founder, Publisher, and Editor of The Xylom, a non-profit, Gen-Z-led newsroom growing science with words. As the only Asian American-run news outlet dedicated to science, climate, and environmental coverage, I take our calling very seriously: In 2024, I was named a Rising Star by the Atlanta Press Club Awards and a Silver Winner in News & Journalism, Sustainability, Environment, & Climate in The 3rd Annual Anthem Awards.
I am skilled in:
Photojournalism (digital and film),
Data Journalism (Datawrapper, Flourish, and Google Sheets),
Fact-checking (I am twice-trained by the Knight Science Journalism Program at MIT),
Chinese-English Translation (I led the translation of the KSJ@MIT Science Editing Handbook!), and
Editing (my writers have won awards from the National Academies, and have gone on to write for the New York Times, Scientific American, and Nature, among others.)
I have spoken at the Online News Association annual conference, ComSciCon (x3), Science Journalism Forum, and a workshop co-organized by the Hong Kong Journalists Association, supported by the Earth Journalism Network. I am also an accredited Solutions Journalism trainer fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese. Please reach out to me about any speaking opportunities here.
I am a proud alum of the Georgia Tech School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and the MIT Graduate Program in Science Writing. My words have also appeared in The Christian Science Monitor, The Objective, and Verite News.
